Anyone run into an issue with rental unit host indicating they have rentals booked for their 30 night annual limit but offering to let you book privately instead?
I truly hope you only ask this question because you don’t fully understand the laws with regards to holiday rentals in Amsterdam. It’s illegal for homes in specific areas in Amsterdam to be rented out for more than 30 days per year. It doesn’t matter whether or not these 30 days are booked via a platform like AirBnB or directly with the owner. By asking you to go around the platform, the owner is trying to hide the fact that he/she rented out his/her house more than 30 days per year. In other words; he/she is asking you to help them break the law. Is that something you’re prepared to do?
Thank you for the response. I was not aware of this restriction; the host provided information on the restriction. It certainly makes me concerned about any VRBO/AirBnB type of accommodation offered in the area. I'm not a risk taker - I want to be confident that there won't be any issues that impact my stay or put me in a compromising situation. Sure, sometimes s**t happens for which one must be flexible and adapt but I'd lose sleep over this sort of thing!
The local Amsterdam specific laws with regards to the 30 day limit can be found on the website of the city of Amsterdam; https://www.amsterdam.nl/en/housing/holiday-rentals/reporting-holiday-rentals/
If you accept this offer and go around the platform, you will 100% without a doubt be put in a compromising situation, as you will actively help someone break the law. The risk that this will result in issues that impact your stay is significant.
