Some welcome input please, we spend 3 days/nights Amsterdam and have left 2 full days/nights open before we have to train to Osnabruck, Germany to visit family. After Osnabruck, we will train to Brussels and start our Belgium portion of our trip. My question is - any suggestions for those 2 full days before travel to Germany ? Considering the direction we will need to go, I’m unsure of proximity to different places to get back in schedule.

Have those two days in the eastern Netherlands. Base yourself in Deventer (which is on the Amsterdam-Osnabrück line), and visit those wonderful historical cities along the river IJssel, such as Kampen, Zwolle and Zutphen. There are also some castles to visit, like in Heino and Ruurlo, easily done by train.
