3 day Amsterdam & Region Pass question

I realize this is a stupid question but...
If I purchase a 3 day pass (at the I Amsterdam in the airport) do I have to use it with anything else like a OV or tripkey? It seems a little too easy and I think I am missing something.

The tickets are printed on stock that has an internal chip that will activate the turnstiles at the railway stations and beep when you scan it getting on a tram. Be sure to scan the ticket when you get off a tram or you might not be able to use it for a while as the computer will think you are still on the tram. You also need to scan it exiting train stations whether or not they have exit turnstiles.

We have been using this for the past few days and it is as easy as it seems.

Thank you Laurel. When/if you have time would you share which of the towns outside of Amsterdam you visited and how you liked them? We are going to base ourselves in Haarlem.

We are staying in Haarlem! We went to Utrecht the other day. Be aware that the pass only covers you so far (Amsterdam Holendrecht) and you have to buy a fare to any town beyond the pass limits. We found that to be a bit challenging to figure out and there is help at the station, but I think we'd have been just as well off to buy the RT ticket direct Haarlem to Utrecht. Tomorrow we are going to Hoorn and Enkhuisen but as our pass is expired we will just buy the train tickets.

It was really nice in Amsterdam to just use the pass to hop on and off the trams, and of course we used it to/from Haarlem.

Haarlem is nice. Very low key and peaceful, nice to walk around after the craziness of Amsterdam during the day. Do try to get off-the-beaten. We liked Joordan very much and also the area around the Stopera and the old Jewish Quarter was pleasant to stroll around, away from the hordes.
