2 nights in Delft

I will be staying in Delft in August. I have a Rick Steves' Netherlands book that is pre-Covid from a prior trip to Amsterdam. It seems that many hotels have either closed or changed their operations since the pandemic. Does anyone have a recommendation for a mid-priced option?

Thanks!

No place specific, but I use Booking.com, lots of great places, great map t show you exactly where they are, you can search by amenities.

The other option is chains, I always look for IHG hotels (Holiday Inn, Indigo, Kimpton, etc.) and the Accor brand, like Ibis.

If all else fails, Den Haag (The Hague) is close, with lots of options.

On our RS tour last year we stayed two nights in Delft. (RS tours no longer stay in Delft.) Anyway, unrelated to hotels, our group took a tour at De Candelaer; only 1 of 2 remaining official Delftware companies left in Delft. Everywhere else they stamp things on then put a brush stroke on it and call it handpainted. But these guys are the real deal and their artists paint start to finish. They are a small mom and pop shop and the owner gave us a little tour and shared his passion. There were 3 official Delftware companies prior to covid and only 2 survived. So be sure and support their small business when you are there. Enjoy! (We arrived on King's Day! Wow was that a city wide party!)

We stayed in Delft for several days (2023) and really enjoyed it. Our hotel - Hotel De Plataan Delft Centrum - was "interesting". The hotel had "themed" rooms and non-themed rooms, and we (actually it was me) opted for the themed room - an Egyptian one - and it was not something I would opt for again. Just a little too weird/quirky. The hotel itself was very friendly and had a wonderful breakfast. It was well located and had bike parking.

Delft itself was well located as well - we did trips to both the Hague and Rotterdam, plus some great cycling in the countryside around Delft. We rented bikes locally from Halfords and they were easy to work with. Nice variety of options for food - especially canal side - and lots of beer. :) plus plenty of shopping, and there is a short RS walking tour too.

So, De Plataan gets several high marks for friendliness, location, and their breakfast, but SKIP a themed room. Not sure how the other rooms were, so maybe see how they look on the website. From what I can tell, those would be what we would book for our next visit.

We did not stay in Delft, but did a day trip there. The Royal Delft Factory and Museum was excellent! I did not think we would spend much time there, but it was fascinating so we spent much longer there than anticipated. You walk right though the production area, and can see the employees working their craft, including the painting. I bought a vase there, and the clerk looked at the bottom and said that the person who painted that one was working that day, so she took it to her and her sign a certificate. They ship too;)

We stumbled upon a wonderful place for dinner, Monastere. We were there a bit too early so only the bar area was open, which was fine, but the owner insisted on opening the kitchen for us and they did, so we sat in the dining room. Excellent food, and needless to say the service was as well.
