10 hour layover (from arrival time to departure time) in Amsterdam

Hello, we will have a 10 hour layover (from arrival time to departure time) in Amsterdam on Monday 29 April. We are flying from South Africa and into Portugal.
We’re wondering if anyone has an itinerary they used for this amount of time? We would have just come off a 12hour overnight flight so we may prefer being outdoors, to being indoors. Will we have enough time to do the 3 Rick Steve’s City Walks, or are they too far apart to make it doable? Or maybe a combination of a walk(s) and a canal cruise?

Very excited about the layover and looking forward to your recommendations! :)

Rather than following someone else’s itinerary, why don’t you make your own? What would you like to do?
You have plenty of time to explore Amsterdam, take a canal cruise, walk around. You even have time to visit the Rijksmuseum should you wish. The Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank house are sold out for your date.
Or you could skip Amsterdam altogether and visit the world famous tulip park the Keukenhof. The Keukenhof is a very easy and short bus ride away from the airport.

I am horrid with directions and this outing is my responsibility to plan, so I need the help of more experienced people.

We always really enjoy Rick’s walking tours, so doing a couple of those would be good. A canal cruise to see the sights also sounds like a good idea after walking around for a while.
