1-day on my own to explore Christmas markets and lights - London or Amsterdam?

I will be in Europe the first week of December on a business trip - and I will have one or two days to explore the Christmas markets and lights on my own (12/2 and 12/3) - either in London or Amsterdam.

I've been to both cities several times and have enjoyed the key tourist sites - but never in the winter.

Which city do you recommend? And what specific areas and Christmas markets to see? I've seen private black cab tours of London's Christmas lights listed - any Christmas tours you'd recommend?

Thanks for the recommendations.

As long as you can get to either of those perhaps you could go to one with both lights and Christmas Market. Many choices in Germany. Cologne or Nuremberg would be my top big ones, many small ones if you prefer.

I was in London last year for work the first week of December also. The couple of markets I went to were OK, but nothing what I would consider great. I can't comment on Amsterdam since haven't been there in the winter either.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I've decided to spend my free time in London this time and are looking forward to seeing the Christmas lights and market!
