1 day layover

We are picking up a river cruise in Amsterdam and thought about getting in a day earlier to
not be as stressed about delays and to give ourselves at least a day to see the city.
Any recommendations on hotels either near the airport, or near the train station (close to
where the river boat will be departing).
Thanks, KK

No specific recommendations, but do not stay near the airport, get a train into Amsterdam.
There is nothing at the airport, but it only takes a few minutes by train to Amsterdam Centraal, and then you are near everything.

Definitely go a day (or even more) earlier and definitely stay in the city. Amsterdam is easy to get around by tram. Don't limit yourselves to hotels near the train station, if you find something attractive elsewhere.

If you have not visited before, and especially if you like museums, then I'd want a couple of days there to see the highlights of Amsterdam. Rick probably doesn't have a single guidebook that would cover most of your river destinations; coverage is likely to be spread between several books; but his Amsterdam & the Netherlands is a new edition, just published in April.

I agree whole heartedly with Chani and Laura. So much to see and do in Amsterdam, you could spend a lot longer than a couple of days. It's a great city.
