..is it worth it to buy a transit pass with only 1.5 days in Amsterdam?

Get the country pass 1 day for 40 Euros. It covers Amsterdam and any other city you might want to visit nearby. get it at the airport; use to get to your accommodations and so on.

Um, 40 euros sounds crazy to me. Ive only ever taken the tram, walked, or biked, and rarely taken the tram. Once you get to the city and to your hotel to drop bags, most things are very walkable. But I tend to walk everywhere so maybe Im an anomaly

Yeah that one day pass is good only if you are taking day trips to a couple of towns and back to Amsterdam.. I have never bought a transit pass for Amsterdam itself as it is great walking city

The historical centre - from the Central Station on the one side to the Rijksmuseum on the other - can be walked in 30 mins. And walking is, of course, the best way to appreciate the city.
