The Carlton Square - Haarlem. highly recommended

We recently spent a week in Harlem and thoroughly enjoyed the the Carlton Square, Baan 7, Houtplein, 2012 DB Haarlem. It is located just outside the pedestrianized area, across from a lovely park, with several excellent restaurants within a block (a terrific neighborhood Italian and superb French). It is only a very brief walk ([10 mins or so) to the market square, carrie ten boom house, canal tours, etc. and local buses, to the central station, Amsterdam. Leiden, the beach, etc., are just steps away. The hotel was quiet (excellent soundproofing), comfortable beds, generously-sized rooms (more American sized than European) and a wonderful breakfast buffet - fruit, juices, breads, omelettes, eggs to order - at a price a fraction of hotels in Amsterdam. We were very happy!

crooney55, what was the price range?

And I must mention that some of the best Italian food we've ever had has been in the Netherlands, in Haarlem and Leiden.

We found the best prices on the web site and paid an average of 219E, including breakfast (paid at the hotel). The web site has numerous booking options - with and without breakfast, for extended stays, with or without cancellation - you just have to go thru the options to decide what is best for you, Somewhat confusing but lots of choices!

crooney55,
Thank you so much for this hotel recommendation! My husband and I hope to add a night in Haarlem at the end of our RS Belgium/Holland tour in 2026. Always happy to hear of any other recs from that part of the world!

I stayed at the Carlton Square Hotel in April 2018 and found it was very reasonably priced and had easy access to the Keukenhof gardens. I happened to be there for the King’s birthday and enjoyed the festivities. It was a treat to observe the orange-wearing folks everywhere and the giant flea market all through the main drag of Haarlem. Bands playing music! A fascinating cultural moment.
