We are going on the 21-day Best of Europe trip this fall.
We wish your advice on hotels in our starting and ending cities, since we want to arrive early and stay late.
Good budget hotels would be appreciated. We're open to all styles, however.
Any prices and reviews are welcome.....as are any nay-sayings!
First, you might try posting your question under a Netherlands Q&A instead of Netherland Reviews. You'll probably get more responses.
With that said, if you don't already have a good guidebook, I would start there. Rick's guidebook give lots of suggestions on hotels in both of these cities. Here are a few from these guidebooks:
Paris:
[$$] Hôtel de la Motte Picquet***, at the corner of Rue Cler and Avenue de la Motte-Picquet, is an intimate, modest little place with narrow halls, comfortable but compact rooms, and a terrific staff. Rooms on the street come with a little noise but are generally larger and brighter (standard Db-€150, bigger Db-€230, Tb/Qb-€270-350, 30 Avenue de la Motte-Picquet, tel. 01 47 05 09 57, www.hotelmottepicquetparis.com, [email protected], Moe and Vanessa).
[$$] Hôtel Beaugency***, a good value on a quieter street a short block off Rue Cler, has 30 smallish rooms with standard furnishings and a lobby that you can stretch out in (Sb-€120, Db-€155, twin Db-€165, occasional discounts for Rick Steves readers--ask when you book, 21 Rue Duvivier, tel. 01 47 05 01 63, www.hotel-beaugency.com, [email protected]).
Haarlem:
[$$$] Ambassador City Centre Hotel, with 46 comfortable rooms in a big, plain hotel, is located just behind the Grote Kerk. If you’re willing to trade some street noise for amazing church views, ask for a room in the front (Db-€100, often less off-season, breakfast buffet-€13.50, free Internet access and Wi-Fi, Oude Groenmarkt 20, tel. 023/512-5300, www.acc-hotel.nl, [email protected]). They also run Hotel Joops, with 32 rooms, a block away (rooms are €10 cheaper; studios and apartments with kitchenettes for 2-4 people-€110-140 depending on season and number of people).
[$$] Central Hotel Malts rents 12 bright, simple, and fresh rooms for a good price. The rooms in front are big, but not recommended for light sleepers (small D-€75, small Db-€79, standard Db-€89, big Db-€95, check website for best prices, no elevator, free Wi-Fi, Zijlstraat 56, tel. 023/551-2385, www.maltshotel.nl, [email protected], Marco and Andrea). They also offer €65 studio apartments with kitchenettes near the Red Light District.
I hope this helps some.
