I need a single room in a moderately priced hotel with elevator in Amsterdam for Oct 10 - 12. Many of the small hotels, like Hotel Hestia, are booked for the dates I need. I would do B&B but so many are up several steep flights of stairs. Prefer area near Van Gogh museum or central part of city. Thanks, Carolyn
I don't know what your definition of "moderately priced" is but I have stayed at Hotel Alexander in Amsterdam. It is a short walk from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.
Try Hotel D'Amsterdam on Tweede Helmersstradt. Very close to Leidseplein with great transit connections to both the airport or various tram lines to get to other parts of the city. Hotel is an easy walk to Vondelpark (5 minutes), Van Gogh/Rijks and fancy shops along PC Hooftstraadt (10 minutes) and Albert Cuyp outdoor market (20 minutes). They have an elevator (it's a small one, but it is quick and reliable), free WiFi (single computer in lobby if you don't have a laptop or tablet). Single room I had came with a mini fridge and a large wardrobe. Bathroom was small - just a shower stall, but the rooms are all ensuite. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful by pointing out that I could walk 2 minutes to Leiseplein to catch the bus back to airport for much cheaper than taking the tram back to Centraal to get a train or taking one of the airport coach services. I got a better price for Hotel D'Amsterdam by going through Booking.com than what was initially posted on their website, so check to see which is better for your dates. You may also want to see what the rates are for some of the budget chain hotels like Ibis. There is an Ibis right next door to Centraal where you can connect with any number of tram lines plus the airport train and ferries that cross the IJ, but there is also an Ibis Styles in the De Pijp neighborhood that's about a 15 minute walk to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh. In addition to the Albert Cuyp Market, De Pijp is an interesting neighborhood full of funky little shops, cafes and restaurants.
We like hotel Fita...great area close to Van Gogh yet close to other areas also.
Has anyone stayed at the Heren or Maes B&B OR at Hotel Brouwer, all three of which are on the Singel canal? I was curious about these places for our 2 day stay pre-tour. I like the idea of staying on a canal (I want to be able to take night time pictures and not be rushed so setting up a small tripod from the hotel window will help). I want to be fairly close to the train station because we'll be doing lots of sightseeing these 2 days.
Carolyn, maybe replies to this will help, although I'm sure by nw you have something set up since your trip is in a few days!
