HAARLEM Apartment and Indonesian Restaurant

My husband and I stayed in Haarlem for five nights. We were so glad that we stayed outside of Amsterdam at the Rick Steves recommended, Haarlem Hotelsuites, www.haarlem-hotelsuites.nl. The English speaking general manager, Mylene W. was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We stayed in the Kleine Hout 1, one bedroom apartment which had a kitchen, comfortable bedroom, and an extra room that my husband used as an office. Albert Heijn and DekaMarkt Supermarkets are close to the apartments. There's plenty of good neighborhood restaurants. Two blocks from our apartment, we enjoyed rijsttafel (Rice Table-a Dutch creation of many dishes and sauces) at the Indonesian restaurant, De Lachende Javaan on Frankestraat 27.
Since we stayed in Haarlam we rented bikes and rode out to the beach *Zandvoort and Bloemendaal. The bike routes were easy to follow and riding out to the coast takes about one hour.
After spending a full day in Amsterdam, it was great to be able to retreat to Haarlem for a bowl of ice cream and relaxation in our apartment.

I don't know about the suites, but I do very much like De Lachende Javaan
