Another recommendation for Drift Away canal cruise in Amsterdam

Many thanks to mikliz97 for recommending the Drift Away canal cruise with Jack. I booked a cruise with him earlier this week and it was a highlight of my visit to Amsterdam. Five stars +++! Jack is a terrific cruise captain and his knowledge of history/architecture/life in Amsterdam is impressive. He’s great at answering questions and the cruise offered a thorough and scenic introduction to the city. I give him extra bonus points for his social skills — including myself, there were three people on my cruise, two of whom seemed to spend more time on their phones than engaging with the experience. Jack was very adept in the way he included them in the conversation while responding to the questions I asked along the way.

The price for a shared cruise is 55Euro per person and Jack offers drinks (with alcohol and alcohol-free) and snacks for those on board. His electric-powered boat is comfortable (it even has a bathroom) and is very quiet — you can choose to sit inside or outside and still hear everything clearly. I saw several other canal cruise boats during my 90 minute tour, and (solely my opinion!) none looked as if it would offer a more comfortable or enjoyable experience than the cruise with Jack. I am so glad you enjoyed Jack and the cruise! We were so impressed with him as well. We did a regular canal cruise on that same trip and it did not compare even one iota.

That looks awesome! A friend texted me this morning asking about meeting up in Berlin in June before he goes to meet another one of his friends in the Dolomites.

Afterward, I read this post and thought your boat trip sounded neat. Then I read your user name. It made me think my buddy and I should meet in Amsterdam instead of Berlin and do the canal tour + go see the Corrie ten Boom house in Haarlem (which we both would love to see) + do other things in Amsterdam. You're username probably has nothing to do with the Corrie ten Boom, but it got me thinking.

And this post is bookmarked for future reference!

Dave, buy tickets now (or the minute your dates are set) for the Corrie Ten Boom tour. We booked about 8 months out. We met many disappointed people in line, who were hoping someone would be a no show. The tours are very small and about once or twice a day. It's a really moving and interesting tour. I reread The Hiding Place before we went. I heard her speak when she was very old; when I was a kid. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the charming town of Haarlem.
