Where to overnight

We will be in Kotor for 3 nights April 20-23 and before heading to Mostar would like to spend one more night in inland Montenegro. I would appreciate any suggestions for a one night stand to see a little bit more of the country.

Thank you.

I haven't been to the monastery, but I think Cetinje is an excellent suggestion. It is very attractive and has a different look from the coastal towns.

I believe the road between Kotor and Cetinje is...umm...challenging, so zoom in on the Google map to see what you're getting into. If you have extra time you might try to see a bit of Lovcen National Park. It sounds lovely, but it seems to require a car, which I did not have.

If the prospect of driving to Cetinje from Kotor evokes an "eek", you might instead stop in Herceg Novi, which is also on the Bay of Kotor. I enjoyed a short day-trip there.

Centinje was probably the only disappointment I experienced in Montenegro.

As for 3 nights in Kotor. If you have seen or will see Dubrovnik on this trip, then spending even one night in Kotor isnt well spent. Its like Dubrovnik, but not as good.

If I had four nights to spend in Montenegro again, I would do a night in Perast a perfect lay over after leaving the crowds of Dubrovnik. Beautiful setting on the Bay of Kotor. A night i Budva. Just a fun, not overly crowded seaside walled town. We did a little deep sea fishing out of Budva. Ulcinj for east meets west. The old town on the hill is really, really amazing. Then I would cap it off with a night in Mojkovac in the Montenegro high country. Acutally, I would do that 3 nights. Of course I would be there for the canyon nearby, the nature and the fly fishing...

Montenegro is one of my favorite places. But you are missing everything I love about it.

Still, eveyone's interests are different. I bet no matter what you come up with you will have a wonderful time.

Thank you so much for your good suggestions. We decided to make Kotor our home base and from there explore Cetinje, Budva, etc. This comes from an aversion to packing up and moving so frequently. I am curious if the weather in late April would make Mojkovic a possibility for 1-2 nights after Kotor and before Mostar......

I'm sure you will have a great time. I've done a couple of trips to Montenegro. Love the country. If I wanted to set up camp some place it would be Budva. Check travel times.
