Travel by rental car Frankfurt to Montenegro, good idea?

Heading to Montenegro in June and thinking about driving from Frankfurt to Montenegro just because I have never seen this part of the world before. Looks like it is only about 10 hours. Anyone care to comment? What about a one-way rental?

The countryside between the two is incredibly beautiful. But most would fly on Montenegro Airlines to Podgorica Airport.
The eastern side of the Adriatic is just not that easy to drive through. And the Alps between Frankfurt and the north end of the Adriatic are pretty tough driving.

How do you figure 10 hours? Even Google Maps which is always very optimistic says 13 to 14 nonstop.

But you can't go non-stop. Even if wear a pampers like that woman did a few years ago driving across the USA, you will have border control as you leave Schengen and every border afterwards. You'll have to refuel too. It is 1200 km the most direct way, 1500 km the easy (easier) way. You will also have to stop for tolls, the Austrian Vignette, the Slovenien Vignette, and any other permits.

How much did the rental agency quote for the one-way drop fee? Or at least, how many zeros?

On a different matter, you were asking in 2008 about your passport which expired in September of that year. If you got a 10 year one then, it would have just expired again. Have you got a new passport for this trip?
