Places to check out in Montenegro

We’ve had a fantastic trip here to Montenegro. Just a couple promotions for today of places you might want to check out in no particular order.

  1. Niagara waterfall near Podgorica (also known as Vodopad) is a popular scenic spot located on the Cijevna River just outside Podgorica, We stopped here for a short stop. We could easily see spending more time here on a hot day relaxing in the river. There looked to be some nice pools where you could swim.

  2. Skadar Lake. Great way to see the lake and enjoy some time on the water. Didn’t realize it grows in winter when it floods the flood plain and grows to nearly 500 km square.

  3. Figo gelateria in Podgorica. Great place for local in store made gelato on a hot day.

  4. Not to be outdone by Adore Chocolate store. Not far away from Figo.

  5. As Mr. E recommends, Ostrog Monastery. Fabulous place to visit. The hike from the lower parking lot is a bit but be prepared. It took us about 45 minutes to hike up and 30 to come down. They also have coverings as it’s mandatory to cover your legs to enter if you’re not covering your knees. No cost to enter.

  6. After the monastery is the nearby Sokoline Restaurant for a cold drink and perhaps a light lunch while enjoying the view.

I hope that helps for those coming to Montenegro. Off to Durmitor National park tomorrow.

Much more affordable up away from the coast too and fewer tourists. Just your locals seeing what locals go to see. Now Zabljak appears to have more international tourists but prices for food so far are very reasonable.

Where are you staying in Zabjlak?

This is all great Fly Guy. Thank you for the updates. Things are going to change big time when you cross the border. How much do you know about the siege?

When you cross the border you will be in the Republic of Srpska, then at some point you cross into the Federation of Bosnia & Herzegovina. Ask the driver to tell you about them, if you dont already know.

We had a last minute accommodation change. I can’t remember the exact place we were supposed to stay in but it was one of the cabins up here. They had a pipe burst the day before and our cabin would have had no water so we are now in the Alexander Conference Center. Right in the middle of town. Dijana felt so bad and to be honest we were both looking forward to the cabin too. Not her fault though and this was a day before replacement.
