My husband and I along with our adult son and girlfriend are planning to hike the Peaks of the Balkans trail in early September.
has anyone done this trail? wondering what to expect with the weather and trail condition. Facilities in the small villages.
Quality and type of food served in the shepherd's homes?

Walk 192km? If i were yoing again. I cant help but to say that I have been to a few of the destinations on the trail in Montenegro and Albania and in September, and they are stunning. Good weather.

Thanks for your reply. The pictures look stunning, which is in part why we chose to do this. We are doing a lot of long day hikes and multiple backpacking trips ahead of the adventure to get in condition for this. We booked a guided tour through Emir at Balkan Mountain Adventure Company. I had contacted other groups but this one, based out of Montenegro was by far the most responsive. I will post an update after we have completed but I feeling confident in this group. We will have a private guided tour at a very reasonable price. Before leaving on the trek we will be touring Albania for 7 days. Also very excited about that adventure.

It's about my favorite region in Europre. I'll be back fishing in Bosnia at the mend of August.

I also used Dijana Krkotic for travel recommendations. She works mostly in Montenegro. For the travel in Albania she recommended Adela with Balkan Pearls. Adela has been great to work with as well. I would highly recommend both of these travel agents.
