We plan to visit Durmitor National Park in early May to do some hiking and rafting. Any suggestions for towns or places to stay

Zabljak is the best place to stay to hike in Durmitor. I stayed at Ivan Do campsite: https://www.autocamp-ivando.com/en/
It was simple, but with great views and easy access to hiking. You can also camp wild in the National Park, or there are some designated camping areas if you'd prefer a long drop toilet and some water etc. I did a a four day hiking trip in the mountains: https://coolofthewild.com/durmitor-national-park-hiking/ It was incredible! Lots of the area can be accessed on long day hikes if you'd rather not carry your stuff with you.
