Best route from Kotor to Sarajevo

We will be spending two nights in Kotor after Dubrovnik and driving up to Sarajevo then Mostar and continuing north back in Croatia. Been reading some negative reports on the roads from Kotor to Sarajevo. Has anyone recently done this drive and can recommend not necessary the shortest but the most smooth way to get between these two cities? Multiple routes are shown on Google maps. Thanks for the help.

I've done parts of it. The roads were pretty darn good. Oh, some get overly excited about the P1, but i think it's a blast.

Are you renting a car? That with drop-off fees is going to be expensive. About a month ago, I hired a driver from the Kravice waterfalls to Mostar and the Blagaj Tekija Monastery and on to Sarajevo. On previous trips heading towards Zagreb, we stopped in Travnik and Jajce and Kljuc and the Una National Park. While I picked the major stops, the driver and the trip planner I know took care of all the little places in between. I just would not have known or gotten as much out of it driving myself or trying to do it without local help.

Montenegro and Bosnia are among my favorite places in the world, which is why I keep returning. I am jealous. Have a blast and ask or PM if I can help.

Oh, the route. The post up above, sure: Kotor → Cetinje → Nikšić. But how much time do you have? Cause just that short route has an excellent prosciutto curing house/restaurant, museum of the royal history, a place on a deck with a view to die for at lunch, an amazing monestery built into the side of a mountain and a half dozen secrets just off tgr main road.

The second half of the route suggested, sure, but if you have time detour to zip line the deepest river canyon in Europe ... or raft it. But at least a night with another deck with a view you won't forget.

Did I mention the winery? Oh, literal home cooking?

Wait!!! "KOTOR"!!! Do you have any idea how much you just skipped getting from Dubrovnik to Kotor? You have 3 weeks for this, right? Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH) are 10 days each. And you can do 10 days in either for the cost of 7 days in Croatia.

Hi Sharon, We just did this drive around three weeks ago. We used Google maps and we picked the quickest route. It took us through Bileca (nearest city to the border). The border crossing was very easy and smooth and no line ups. The roads were in good condition. There was a stretch where we were driving through a lot of winding roads so it took awhile to drive a short distance. All in all it was a great drive and very pretty. It took us about 8 hours and that included a lunch stop. We hadn't gotten our Bosnian currency yet but everywhere we stopped also took Euros with no issues. Had an interesting stop when I wanted some coffee at a restaurant. Went inside (around 10 am ) and managed to order a coffee ( no one spoke English). While she was making my coffee the owner pulled out a big bottle of homemade alcohol and next thing I knew I did four shots with several of the people inside. When I came back to the car I was slightly tipsy and reeked of alcohol! I wasn't the driver and wasn't charged for the shots. The Bosnian people are very lovely and welcoming.
I wish I could remember the exact route, sorry! But even though the distance doesn't seem long, because of the mountains, it will take awhile. But was completely doable in a day.

You mean the recycled 1.5L plastic Coke bottle, now full of a clear liquid, if not drunk, is used to start cars on cold days?
