But if you are trying to see the Northern lights, that is the wrong part of Europe.

Thanks for that, so is the Man in seat 61 updated regularly? It's hard to find dates on some information, however the link you sent seems to show the train will not run in winter....😢.
And yes, as mentioned, this is on my way to see the Northern Lights, in Norway ☺️

Man in Seat 61 is updated regularly. He used to put the date of last amendment on each Page, but for some reason stopped doing that.
I would note that his page on the ferry from Italy to Bar is not up to date when you check with the operator.
I keep finding errors and contradictory information on his website.

My reading of his information is that the day train only runs in summer, but that the night train runs all year.

I know that this is not Germany, but Bahn.de is usually the best and most reliable source of train information across Europe.

In general, the site is very well updated and he does a great job of keeping track of any changes. From where are you travelling? Trains in the Balkans are often no quite up to western European standards (yet).

Also, I don't know where you are heading, but consider Abisko instead of Norway. That place is hard to beat when it comes to seeing the Northern lights.

Another example of Man in Seat 61's shortcomings- in Spain Iryo have started running from Madrid to Malaga as of 2 April., in competition with RENFE.
But he doesn't mention that. If I know about such a development, then he should. His page on the train to Moldova is also way out of date- wrong fares and wrong times.

Thank you all for your replies and it looks like I will miss the day train from Bar to Belgrade, so will keep looking and other worthwhile options.
I'm coming from Australia and I love a good train journey, and it's more about the adventure/experience, not luxury ☺️

We will have a van to explore Lofoten so can definitely pop over to Abisko 😁.

jenayakeech, yes, too bad. I am getting one of the last day trains for this route in mid-September. From what I read the night train will be running and would have some views. But if you would be going out of your way, probably not worth it.

I just want to thank you all who shared information about this railway route. My family has been to Montenegro twice and we fell in love with this beautiful country. This train is on our wish list, but we doubted if it works these days at all =)) you know - so many things have changed... Well, thank you for the topic and for all the updates.
