2 days in Kotor

Good afternoon. I am travelling to Montenegro for 3 days. I will have 1 day in Podgorica , and then will travel to Kotor for 2 days.

Are there any hotel, restaurant, and activity recommendations for Kotor?

What is the best way to travel from Podgorica to Kotor?

Thank you,
Greg

There's public-bus service between Porgorica and Kotor. It would be slower and cheaper than a private transfer. However, it can be difficult to be sure of accurate bus schedules in Montenegro until you've checked at the local bus station. Online information can be incomplete or inaccurate. That said, I've taken quite a few buses on two separate trips (as recently as last year), and I've had no problems.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a bus. And most of the roads are pretty good.

If you do get a private transfer, get your money's worth with a few stops along the way. Maybe take the P1 and stop for prosciutto (that link above) and the views. Pretty spectacular. The cost of the transfer should be fairly reasonable, this being Montengro and not Croatia.

Of course I do have two questions. First, why are you spending a day in Podgorica? I am guessing its about something other than tourism. Then why Kotor? I ask only because if there is any flexibility there might be other things you like as well.

I just stayed 3 days in Kotor and I loved the place! Especially during the evening after the cruise ship passengers were gone.
If you’re up to it, I would suggest you to climb the 1400 steps up to the fortress. Make sure to go early in the morning when the sun isn’t yet high enough. That way, most of the climb is in the shade. Another tip is to take a boat ride thru the bay. We did one with stops on the small island with the Our Lady of the Rock church and in Perast.
I can recommend restaurant Ombra. The restaurant is located on a quiet square in the middle of the city center. Had lunch there on their nice terrace in the shade.

We also did a trip to Lovcen NP and visited the mausoleum.

I like Kotor, too. You do have to be willing to tolerate a cruise ship deluge in the old town (especially the part nearest the water) if there's a large ship in port. But there are some (admittedly not major) sights to see in Kotor. I prefer that situation to the less touristy Perast, which has nothing of interest to me except the little church offshore. I know Mr. E disagrees.

If you've had enough of Kotor, you can take a public-bus trip to Herceg Novi, Risan (Roman villa ruins with some mosaics) or Perast. Risan and Perast are on the same bus route, but they're pretty close together; I walked between them.

Mr. E and I are of one mind about Podgorica, though. Skip it if you can.
