zurich to varenna in October

We are flying into Zurich in early October and planning to take a (scenic) train route from Zurich to Milan and then on to Varenna. Milan is not really necessary; focus is on the lakes. Suggestions for trains? Thanks!

Here are your choices: train schedulesYou probably want one that minimizes train changes. The part of the route that crosses the Alps should be scenic. It looks like you have to go through Milan. You can see a map of the route if you click on Maps/Route.
