Zurich thru Italy by train

I would like help on a few train/trip issues. We have traveled around Italy a few times in the past but mostly by car. This year we are going all by train. Sept 2-7-Zurich, Sept 7-8-Gimmewald, Sept9-13-Venice(overnight in Stresa 9/9 ), Sept 13-15-Ischia(overnight in Naples Sept 13?), Sept 16-19-Sorrento Sept 20-23 Rome, Sept 24-Back to the USA I am considering a rail pass but after reading some post am not sure. I found Eurail 5 day, 3 country 1st class pass for $770. Separate tickets for each leg on Raileurope were $780 2nd class. Not sure about which is better but we are older and seems 1st would better more comfortable for the same price as 2nd. If we go straight from Interlachen to Venice on 9/9, we will get in Venice at 7:30-8:00 PM. We can get to Stresa at 3:30 PM, then to Venice 9/10, (we don't like one night stays but don't think Venice at 8:00 PM sounds good) When we go Venice to Naples 9/13 we get there 2-3PM. Don't know about a boat to Ischia that late. Probably stay 9/13 in one of Ricks picks near train station if necessary. Boat to Ischia 9/14(it would be nice to get there 9/13).Boat to Sorrento 9/15. Train to Rome 9/20. I would appreciate any input about the trip plan.

Don't price your Italy train tickets through Raileurope. Use trenitalia instead. They offer super discounts, if you buy far enough in advance. I'll let others address the particulars of your questions.

Have you considered flying from Venice to Naples? It's at least a five hour train ride.
