ZTL zones

Hello. We are renting a car in Catania and driving around the perimeter of Sicily. Some of our places to stay are in ZTL zones for example Syracuse and Agrigento. However, these places list parking as available in their list of amenities. My question is: are we able to buy a ZTL permit from the rental car agency?

Thank you

No, a ZTL isn't a congestion charge area. You may get a temporary permit from an hotel or a parking that's inside the ZTL sending the plate number in advance.

To avoid fines You will have to drive straight from the closest ZTL "gate" to that hotel / parking and back. You can't "get lost", drive around the city center or in and out the ZTL.

Contact the hotel. It will let you know what to do. Our hotel in Marsala was within a ZTL and we were allowed 30 minutes to check in and unload. In our case, afterwards the hotel moved our car to an available free street parking spot and informed us where it was. It was close to the hotel.

Not Italy, but we had a similar hotel in Spain and for it one was also allowed 30 minutes to check in and unload.
