Your two favorite restaurants and any number of wine bars in Rome

Yes, I could research the heck out of it, but the Italy page is the most heavily used in the RS forum so I figure we have thousands of experts. Maybe you can help me narrow it down to a few hundred to research.

Your top 2 or 3 restaurants please. Any type any cost. There is room for all on my trip.

Thank you for the assistance.

It changes each time I go...but we just got back and here they are:

Pizzeria Emma - a Roscioli operation near Campo de' Fiori, which means great charcuterie. But so much more. Puntarelle (chicory salad), and the best suppli I've had anywhere.

Trattoria da Teo - a very small joint on a backstreet in Trastevere. Tagliatelle with wild asparagus wasn't even on the menu, but the chef brought some out to a friend. We inquired and voila, we got some. Oxtails were incredible--I could go on & on. Tiny strawberries with homemade crema for dessert was sublime. We sat outside for nearly three hours in the afternoon and let the world go by.

Carlo Menta is a place where I feel welcomed as if I were a local (Please God!). Most of the people I see there are not tourists. There are plenty of young people so that tells you the prices are more than reasonable. The staff are friendly - as friendly as you want them to be, including recommending their favorite dishes. I've done lunch and dinner on weekends and weekdays and I've always gone away full, happy and thanked.

The rest of the time, I wander around and see what strikes my fancy. Travestere is probably where I've found the best food and fun. I look for crowded, kind of loud, happy customers and a place that isn't hesitant to take a single customer.

I'll give you one: Enoteca Cul de Sac / +39 06 68801094 / [email protected] / Piazza di Pasquino 73, 00186 Roma

We've made 3 trips and this was the best by far! I read here previously that it's where locals eat.

Enoteca Cul de Sac, as mentioned previously. Also Grappolo d'Oro, just off Campo dei Fiori but not a tourist trap. Both mid-priced, not fancy but very Roman. I lived in Rome for around 2 years and these two are my go-to's.

As long as we're talking Campo dei Fiori, for cut (hand-held) pizza you cannot beat Forno, in the corner of the campo behind the flower sellers.

I also like Pizzeria Emma, proposed by Jay. There's a reason the Roscioli restaurants are so popular.

Yes, ponygirl, we stayed just off Campo de' Fiori a couple weeks ago, and would get cookies and pizza slices at the Forno on the piazza just behind the flower seller as you say, but also a couple blocks away at the original Forno bakery. Tremendous pizza there too, about three different kinds per day.

I've said I want to spend 4-6 weeks one winter in Rome, staying inexpensively near Campo de' Fiori, and Forno would no doubt be part of my daily routine. Cheap eats, as well as a tiny Carrefour grocery just off the other side of the piazza that had everything else--maybe 10 kinds of prosciutto, tremendous mortadella. Salads, everything. Cheap Lavazza coffee for my Melitta filter to make sure I had at least one caffe Americano per day. I could live there cheaper than Florida or Arizona, I guarantee!

Taverna Ripetta, a little place run by two ladies and has a resident dachshund. Not fancy but very homey and very good!

Roscioli Salumeria. It's a hot ticket - need to book a couple weeks in advance - but the food is amazing.

Retrovino is a cute little wine bar if you're in the neighborhood !

Thank you all. I haven't been to Rome in a lot of years so I sort of guessed at ground zero hotel location for everything my S.O. wanted to see .... I guess i did well as I am a 10 minute walk or less to most every recommendation so far. Thank you folks and they look great.
