www.italiarail.com WEBSITE - Should I reserve my trains from home first?

Just wondering if anyone has reserved their trains from home first from this website, or should I just purchase my tickets when I get to the station? We are traveling all over Italy, just wondering what are the best ways of doing this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

You can go on the trenitalia website and book your trains ahead and get the MINI fare discount. The main advice I have read is to not book your ticket in advance if you are taking the train immediately after arriving in Italy, because tickets purchased with a MINI fare discount cannot be changed if you miss your train due to your flight being delayed.

If you are a "rigid" and scheduled traveler like me, you can save a tidy sum of money by purchasing your point to point tickets in advance using the mini-fare discount on the Trenitalia website. However, if you do not want to be bound by a schedule, you definitely don't want to buy the mini fare tix because they are virtually non-refundable.

Agree with ekc, ItaliaRail is just a reseller. Buy your tickets through Trenitalia's website, there is an English language version and if you book in advance you can save a lot.
