Anyone know if there is a WWII or Holocaust type museum in Rome, Florance or Venice?

I don't know of any WWII museums in those cities, but there is a very beautiful (as they all are) American military cemetery just south of Florence.

And there is another at Anzio, about 40 miles south of Rome.

There is a small, but very good, WWII museum at Anzio. The cemetery IS very beautiful and is actually in Nettuno which is just a short train trip from Anzio (I think maybe the next stop up the line).
Very easy to reach both of these places by train. You will have a little walk to get to the cemetery from the train station, but it's really not that bad.
