WWII day tours in Umbria

Hello. I am looking for a recommendation(s) as to WWII tours in Umbria. Either a half or full day tour. I will be in Umbria in late August. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Could you elaborate on what type of tours you're interested, or which WW-II battles these relate to? AFAIK there weren't any especially significant battles in that area, but rather just normal actions as the Allies moved northward against retreating forces.

Umbria was not the center of big battles, and they really don't want to remember the privations of a year of German occupation. You can, though, go to La Foce, right over the Umbrian-Tuscan border, where an American heiress and her husband fixed up an estate, built an amazing garden and houses for workers, and waited out the war. Read Iris Origo's account first. You can find it on Amazon or in any book store. It's called War in Val D'Orcia: An Italian War Diary, 1943-1944. It's the diary she kept surreptitiously as the Germans closed in and the Allies advanced north from Rome, and it's an amazing read. Then go to La Foce and take the tour. You'll learn how Orrigo helped the partisans, took care of kids whose parents up north thought they'd be safer there, and how they survived really hard times. They have rooms to let, too, in beautiful surroundings.

Another question..... are you only interested in tours in Umbria? Also, are you only interested in guided tours or would you also be interested in self-guided tours of WW-II sites?

I doubt that many tours are offered in that area.
