Wrong Last name of Train Ticket

I recently purchased point to point tickets from Venice to Florence and from Rome to Ventimiglia for Myself, my wife and my sister-in- law. Out of habit I typed in my sister-in-law's maiden name instead of her married name. All other info is correct. We purchased the tickets from Rail Europe and they are non-refundable. We are all 70 and older. Are we likely to encounter a problem with my Sister-in- law's ticket?? Thank you.

Nobody cares about the names on train tickets.

Conductors will ask you to show a valid PNR number / QR Code for 3 passengers, not your passports. You could write the PNR on the back of your hand if you wanted, doesn't matter to them.

As a side note, since Italian women do not use their married names you have nothing to be worried about.

absolutely not an issue - trains are different to planes

As far as the ticket goes, you will not have a problem. They do not look at names.

I can so see how this could happen. Every once in awhile I look for my daughter's name in my contacts and struggle a bit until I remember to use the correct name. You would think after 10 years I would remember.......

Italian women cannot change their maiden name.
When my wife became a naturalized Italian citizen, her Italian passport had to bear her maiden name not her married name.
In any case, as explained above, names aren’t important.

I'm lucky in that my daughter did not take her husband's name when she got married, so I don't have to worry about that. :)

That's interesting to know. I booked a few tickets for next month and was certain when I purchased them that the website said that we would have to show ID as well as our PNR. I see on the PDF tickets, it says ID must be shown only upon request.

The biggest lesson here is to not purchase tickets from Rail Europe. They are far from the best site. It is one of the biggest mysteries in life why RS still promotes them. Probably a holdover from the days when he was one of the biggest sellers of rail passes.
