Wow, so many ideas!

Paul- Thanks so much for all the additional suggestions, plus the links to your beautiful photos. I am sifting through all the information you have sent, and re-thinking/planning our itinerary. After being in Roma and Venice, and having driven solo originating in Rome, I most likely will want to enjoy hiking the alps than being in a car to Innsbruck. I'll post my final itinerary in the next couple of weeks. Thanks again! Oh curious to know...why have you chosen to frequent the Italian Alps versus the Swiss Alps? I can't imagine any place more beautiful that the Oberland Valley in Switzerland. I am an Italophile and can't wait to experience the Italian Alps!

Hi Rebecca, We did one trip to Switzerland long time ago. We stayed in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein, St. Moritz, Wengen, Luzern and Zermatt. Our 4 nights in Wengen was by far our favorite stay on this trip. I agree, an incredible area. Why the Dolomite trips instead of returning to the Swiss Alps? The Dolomites look like nothing else in the Alps. Very unique in my opinion. The towering limestone peaks are simply spectacular. I guess I feel they are more "dramatic" looking. It's hard to put into words. That and the fact our travel dollars go much further in the Dolomites than Switzerland doesn't hurt :) The Dolomites also fit well with our Austrian/Bavarian trips. Drive a couple of the passes, they are amazing drives among the up close Dolomite peaks. The Gardena pass is a favorite. If you ever look to visit the Austrian Alps, check out the Zillertal and the Oetztal!
