Would appreciate itinerary feedback

Hello -

I'll be in Italy for two weeks in September/October and will be flying into Naples and out of Milan. This is my tentative itinerary, does this look reasonable? I'll be traveling via public transit.

Many thanks,
Elizabeth

Sorrento - 2 nights

Rome - 2 nights

Orvieto - 1 night

Sienna - 2 nights

Florence - 3 nights

Venice - 2 nights

Varenna/Lake Como - 2 nights

Milan - 1 night

In my opinion, you hit the highlights but you spend way too much time in transit. I suggest prioritizing your town/cities and paring your list down for overnight stays. This will help minimize your travel time. For example, you could do the following:

Sorrento. 3 nights ( don't discount jet lag)
Rome. 3 nights (could day trip to Orvieto on the way to Florence)
Florence. 3 nights with a day trip to Siena
Venice. 3 nights
Varenna /lake Como. 2 nights
Milan. 1 night

This gives you the same number of nights but a couple of less hotel changes. Good luck!

Milan is definitely worth two nights if you can find a way to make that happen.

Keep in mind every time you change locations, you tend to loose a 1/2 day.

Check out of lodging, transit to train station, find your train, actual train travel and then the

reverse to check into new lodging.

The above information is spot on.

The easiest way to get to Sorrento from the airport is the Curreri Viaggi Bus.

Agree with the others about too many places in too short a time period. More time in fewer places usually means more enjoyment and less fatigue. Otherwise your memories of the trip will just be a blur (imo).

I like your basic itinerary. The two cities suggested as daytrips are so much more enjoyable after the daytrippers have gone. Perhaps take one night from Siena and add it to Roma. If you are an organized, energetic person you should be fine for two weeks.

I would try and reduce your number of hotels and aim for 3 night stays.
Either,
Sorrento - 3 nights
Rome - 3 nights
Florence - 4 nights (day trip to Siena)
Venice - 3 nights
Milan - 2 nights

Or,
Sorrento - 3 nights
Rome - 3 nights
Florence - 3 nights (day trip to Siena)
Venice - 3 nights
Varenna/Lake Como - 2 nights
Milan - 1 night

I agree with others. Too many changes. Three nights in each town is much better. If this is your first time in Italy, eliminate Varenna, Sienna , orvieto, stay 3 nights in Rome, Venice and maybe 4 nights in Sorrento. You can do a day trip to Sienna or Orvieto

Thanks, I think I will drop Orvieto and add a night in Rome, need to figure Siena/Florence since the place I have booked in Florence is only available my original dates.
