Hello! A couple years ago someone gave me the most wonderful bar of soap. They couldn't remember exactly where they got it (of course), but that they ordered it thru a window...from a nun perhaps? I am going to Florence soon and would love to bring some of this soap back for others. Does anyone have an idea where to find this soap? A thousand thanks for any info you can give! Kay
It sounds like the Santa Maria Novella Perfumeria. They have wonderful scented soaps.
We got wonderful soaps in Sorrento. They do everything with lemons (and other citrus fruits) there. We brought back a bunch but were sad when we ran out.
Here is a website for the Santa Maria Novella Perumeria: smnovella.it/smn.htm
I think the proper name -trivial stuff- is Santa Maria Farmacia (on the via della Scala) - Even if you do not buy -tough- great environment.
I think the Italian name is "Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella". It is advertised as one of the world's oldest pharmacies, founded in 1612.
We shopped at the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella in Florence, created by the Dominican Friars, around the year 1221. It has lots of wonderful soaps, perfume, pot pouri, etc. in a beautiful building. Expensive, but very unique.
Santa Maria Novella is one of the world's oldest and most beautiful pharmacies. It is housed in a frescoed former chapel. Since 1612 the shop is known for it's natural products like fragrant moisturizng olive oil soap! There are Free tours, offered by appointment, which include the on-site library and museum, which displays centuries old recipe books and vases. It's an easy walk from the train station!
