Women Travelling Alone in Italy

My travelling partner might be flaking on me, we have plans to go to Venice in September but now he might not go. I am a 60 year old woman, in good shape and health. I have travelled alone in Europe before but don't know what it would be like on my own in Venice.

Any advice?

Thanks!!

Venice is a very romantic city. But hey, there are lots of Italian men in Venice that would love to escort you around the city if you wished. If you wish to be alone there is nothing wrong with that either. One of the advantages of traveling alone is being able to sightsee on your own timeframe - no compromises to be made. Go, you'll have a great time!

I always travel alone and was in Venice in March and felt very safe. Even walking the streets alone at night I felt quite comfortable. Venice is very popular and there seems to be people around at all hours so I'm sure you will be fine. Don't let it put you off going to Venice - it's just too beautiful to miss.

Hope, have a good time. I understand your dilemma though, I recently anticipated doing my trip solo and decided I would feel most comfortable on booking tours within Venice for the big sites and then going solo when the mood strikes. good luck and have fun.

Hope, I think you will be fine. I have not traveled to Italy alone, but I have been many other places. I will be in Italy by myself this September & October. Will actually be in Venice from October 1-4. If you're there then & would like company, contact me.

I was alone in Venice this past May. I never felt unsafe and had a marvelous time. Actually, I was stopped often by visitors (some were Italian) asking ME for directions. I was so comfortable with my suroundings that I obviously gave the impression that I lived there. I'm 53 and heading back to Venice just before Christmas.

Grazie mille to one and all!!!

I don't know why I'm hesitating to go to Italy on my own! I've travelled everywhere else on my own!

Wow, it seems that I'm not the only one having this same predicament! I will be travelling to Italy in September/October, and my friend is flaking on me too.

Hey ladies, we should all meet up! :)

I have the same advice as the others - go and LOVE it! I'll be traversing Italy in early October - my 3rd trip alone. I felt VERY safe in Venice...you'll have a blast!!!

And YES, ladies - or gentlemen - let's exchange itineraries! I'd love to meet up for a cappuccino!

Here's mine: Lodi (palio!); Baveno (Lake Maggiore); Monterosso (Cinque Terre); Siena; Perugia. With day trips to neighboring towns from each home base.

If you'll be in any of those places from Sept 28-Oct 15, let's talk!
