My husband and I are going to Italy January 20 to February 4, roughly two weeks. This is our first trip and from what I’ve read the best places to go for first time travelers are Rome, Florence, Siena, and Venice. We’ll be using public transportation. Any suggestions on how long to spend in each city? Or, would you recommend other places? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Venice 3-4
Florence 3
Siena 1-2 or could be as a day trip from Florence (add a night to Florence for every day trip planned)
Rome 4-5
All easily done by train (bus to Siena)
Days are short and weather iffy so you are wise to stick with places with lots of indoor sights
Fly in to Venice, out of Rome
Much easier to arrive in Venice than depart from and Venice is a perfect place to get over jet lag
