Winter hike in Bolzano

Hi, I am looking for a day hike (2-3 hours) in or around Bolzano in January. We will not have a car but arriving by train. Thank you all for your help in advance.

If you aren’t aware of the Ice Man exhibit in Bolzano, you might want to look into that. Do you have a Rick Steves guide? I’m pretty sure he describes a cable car from Bolzano to a nice hike

Hi! There is a nice path along the river in Bolzano that leads to a castle. We loved taking the tram to Oberbozen and then the little train to Klobenstein. There are lots of hiking trails up there. We took one of the loop trails to view the pyramids and then walked back from Klobenstein to Oberbozen on a really beautiful path called the Freudpromenade- a highlight of our trip! The trails are really well marked. Recommend the Lintner Cafe in Klobenstein for a coffee or light lunch! Have a good trip!

You could take the Renon cable car from the center of Bolzano to the Renon plateau and then hike to the Earth Pyramids. On the plateau you will be able to see the Dolomites quite well. You can find details and options here: https://throneandvine.com/discovering-bolzano/. Another great nearby hike is the Chestnut Trail which begins by Runkelstein Castle located just on the outskirts of the city. It is leads through rolling hills and takes you past some of the most famous mountain vineyards in the region. Have a wonderful visit!
