Any winery/ vineyard recommendations around Siena (within an hour or so). Mostly want just a great spot to do a tasting with a wonderful view. Don’t necessarily need a huge tour.
There are a ton. These are 3 in the Chianti (north of Siena) that are famous (in order of distance from Siena)
Castello di Brolio
Badia a Coltibuono
Castello di Verrazzano
If you prefer Brunello di Montalcino (south of Siena), these are two names. It might take a bit longer than 1 hour.
Castiglion del Bosco
Castello di Banfi
If possible, I suggest you do a food and wine tasting. That's the best way to really appreciate the qualities of a wine from the Tuscan region.
We stayed at Castillo di Verrazzano, which Roberto mentioned. We set aside an afternoon to do their tour and food and wine tasting. It was a great experience! We started with Prosecco and an appetizer, then they served their Chianti, Chianti Reserva and their Super Tuscan, each with a different course. We finished with biscotti and vin santo. They also sampled their wonderful (and expensive) balsamic vinegar. We'd never had true pure aged balsamic vinegar and it was amazing!
Be ready to dedicate at least three hours to the tour and tasting. It is well worth the investment in time to do it right.
About three weeks ago, we enjoyed a tasting/lunch at Badia a Coltibuono. Very good views, long history, friendly service, pleasant outdoor lunch paired with one Vermentino and three Chianti classico/reserve wines.
Another day we enjoyed a tasting at Altesino Winery north of Montalcino. The views were excellent as were the Brunello wines. Like you, we only wanted a great view and a tasting, however the winery offering was a short tour and the friendly tasting, (Don't think food is offered besides grassini/breadsticks.)
In both cases, we had reservations.
Both Coltibuono and Altesino wines are available in the US.
