Winery/vineyard by train/bus only near Florence

We are going to Italy in September and want to a day trip from Florence to a nice winery/vineyard (or two near each other) in Tuscany for the day. We don't want to rent a car, so will be limited to transportation by train or bus. We were also hoping to send some wine back to the states if possible. Any suggestions?

Have you considered taking a day tour from Florence? We went on a day tour with Italy and Wine and it was one of the most enjoyable days of our trip. Our tour guide was a very personable sommelier. We visited both small and large wineries and stopped in a hill town for a wonderful lunch in a local restaurant. Opportunities to purchase wine at all the wineries if you choose. If you'd like further information, please send me a PM.

If they have room, and if you want to spend the money, the Tuscan Trails Chianti tour should the fill the bill perfectly. We took this tour in 2014. The current reviews on TripAdvisor are consistent with our experience. Todd is like the best teacher you wish you had in high school - with wine.

We spent a week visiting two or three wineries a day in and around Tuscany with a car. The better wineries are kind of tucked away so there is no way to use pubic transit to get to them. Second some are on really tough roads so the typical big tour bus has trouble reaching them. And finally you need reservations. They are not like the US wineries that you just walk into. So if you don't have a car, then it is best to arrange a tour using a small van as recommended earlier. Shipping wine back to US can be problem because that is state controlled. Do you know if your state permits alcohol to be shipped to residential addresses? That is the first, big question.
