Winery tours in early April?

We’re planning on spending four nights in Siena in early April and would love to do a winery tour from there, but due to the time of year, is there a better way for us to spend a day? I’m just not sure due to the season if there will be much to experience. Would a cooking class be better?

Harvest is in the fall and that’s when all the activity is happening. You can always taste and they might have some sort of short tour. They might be experiencing bud break, but not really much to see.

If you were hoping to see picking, pressing, etc., a food tour might be a better option.

That’s what I thought - thank you for confirming! I shall search for some good food tours and/or cooking classes!

Have a great time in Sienna. We only spent a partial day on the RS Village Italy tour. Wish we had spent at least a couple of nights there.

I've been looking at a couple of half day tours to wineries north of Verona for this fall. For the two companies I looked at there is a tasting and tour of the cellar- they mention this so that you have appropriate warm enough clothing as the cellar is about 15 C. I'm not sure how much of the actual vineyard is part of the tour. If it is actual picking time when I am there, my guess is the picking would be the priority and they may not want visitors in the field? I also got the impression that the tour company works with multiple vineyards in the area.

I guess for particulars ie. tour of the vineyard field contacting the winery or tour company for more details might help you decide if you think it is a worthwhile tour versus a cooking class.
