Winery tours and more....

Hi there,

We will be visiting Italy next April and will be in Florence-3 days, Vernazza-2 days, Siena-2 days, Assisi-2 days, Orvieta and Ciavita-2 days total, and Rome 6 days. First time in Italy for me!

What do you think about visiting wineries at that time of year (I know it's early), and can you recommend any particular wineries? We are taking a cooking class in Assisi and tours with The Roman Guy in Rome. Planning our own trip has been going well so far, fingers crossed.
I have been doing a lot of reading on this site and you are all so helpful. If you have any suggestions of "must see and do" places, please let us know.

If you are interested in visiting wineries, I would drop a day from Rome and add one to Florence. I would use that day to take a wine tour. We loved the Chianti Tour offered by Tuscan Trails, starring Todd Bolton, when we were in Florence in April 2014 - wow nearly 3 years ago! It's not the cheapest option, but it was like spending the day with the best history teacher you wish you ever had, with really good wine.

We have gone to Italy twice in April. Try to avoid Easter Sunday and Monday. A lot of places will be closed. The crowds in Rome weren't as bad as the closures. A lot of people on this forum love the Cinque Terre and we spent two full days there - one would have been enough for me.

Have a great trip!
