We'd like to do a full day winery and cookery tour and I was wondering if you had to pick one, would it be a tour in south of france or a visit to one of the wineries in the siena region. We'll be visiting in First half of october this year. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
Do you have such tours identified and so you are only asking for recommendations for Tuscany or Provence? I love both areas but I like the wine and food better in Tuscany.
Doug, I have not identified any specific tours and any suggestions there would be great. I was just considering the ones recommended by Rick as well some suggested by other travelers on this helpline. Being vegetarian, we love Italian food and I'd inclined to do Tuscany as well.
If you're a vegetarian, I think you'll do better in Tuscany. Can't recommend specific tours, though.
Definitely, it would be easier to be a vegetarian in Italy than in France.
In Italy, every menu has some pastas that don't have any meat, and usually antipasti as well. Also, even though it's a more northern dish, I've often seen polenta items (with no meat) included as a main course.
In terms of a tour, we have always visited wineries on our own. You ask your hotel for suggestions of places, and ask them to set up visits for you. Or, what we did was to come up with a list of places that we wanted to visit (my husband is way into wine), and asked which of those places our hotel could arrange visits to. The actual creation of the wine doesn't change a lot from place to place, but I love talking to the owners (of the small places).
