Winery tour from Turin

Hi. We want to take a day trip for visit winery from Turin. We found a couple tours that they will take 3 of us to wineries in Alba or/and Barolo for about $1400. It is a little pricey. We want to find a cheaper way. We like to visit the vineyard, lean the wine processed, and wine tasting. Do you have any suggestions? Should we pay for this tour or we can do it ourselves by taking the train and book a winery tour with local wineries for lower cost? Thank you.

That does sound like a lot of money. How many wineries would you visit? Does the price include tasting fees? Will the tastings include food? When we went to two wineries in the Barolo region last year we were served fairly substantial charcuterie plates at each winery (too much food by the end) and we tasted almost too many wines - enough to wreck my palette. I checked my notes and I can't find how much it cost for 5 people with a private driver from Turin (who did give us a lovely driving tour on the way to, from and in between). Nor can I find who the driver was. I didn't make the arrangements.

Hi, The tour $1400 has a driver and a guide, tour 1 winery and couple towns/castle. But the cost only covers for the driver and the guide. Food and wine tasting are not included. And another tour for $1796 which covers driver, guide, and a couple of wineries and lunch.

I have no idea if that is expensive, but you might try contacting the Cantina Communale di La Morra. They have a Facebook page and website. Emanuela speaks great English (as do others there, I'm sure) and has been extremely helpful to us when we toured Piedmont. We stayed in La Morra, though. I highly recommend a day trip to La Morra if you can. Lots of wineries right there in the town. If you do it yourself, you will need reservations at most wineries. Emanuela may very well know a tour guide for you.

So the expense is from having a private driver AND a guide. It's not "just" a wine tasting. It's a guided tour with a chance to taste some wine. If wine tasting is the objective, you might want to research wineries and then find a driver.
