Winery that serves dinner?

I've heard of places in France that give you a tour of a vineyard then you have small intimate dinner and conversation with a bunch of strangers - other guests of the winery from different countries... has anyone heard of this in Italy?

I'm specifically looking for something like this near Napoli.

Thank you for your time!!!

Hi Marie,

What you are describing is much more common at an

"agriturismo"
than a proper winery. Agriturismi are farm stays where the owners make their own wine along withjust about everything else they serve. One that I love on the Amalfi Coast is Agriturismo Serafina. You would need a car to get there though. www.agriturismoserafina.it

Marie:

We have done this several times in Tuscany and there are many wineries there that will also put on a dinner. As for the area around Naples - just start researching on the net and you will find the individual winery websites - navigate through those and I am certain that you will find what you are looking for. Google can be a wonderful travel tool :) Have fun.

The area immediately around Naples is not one of the prime wine areas of Italy, not like Tuscany--but maybe you'll find something.

Hi Marie,

If you're able to go somewhere near Florence, I went to Castello di Verrazzano (http://www.verrazzano.com/) which is just outside of florence in the Chianti Region (approx. 35 min bus ride from Florence). They offer lunch & dinner tour options. We did the lunch and absolutely loved it. This was one of the highlights of our entire trip. I would highly recommend looking into it.

For the lunch tour (Chianti Tradition), you start out with an approx 1 hour tour of the grounds/wine making. Then for lunch we sat on the terrace overlooking all of tuscany which was beautiful. Each person got a huge plate of a mix of meats and cheeses (there was a vegetarian version available). Then we sampled 4 wines, and after they poured they left the remaining bottles for the table to finish (and there were only 6 of us at each table). We also sampled a dessert wine and balsamic vinaigrette. And there was also bread with olive oil drizzled over it.

The views were amazing and the people were so friendly!

I echo Marla's comments. We did the wine tasting at lunch as well and it too, was a highlight of my trip. I don't think you'd be sorry. Well worth the time and money. Enjoy. Susan, Raleigh
