Wineries near Florence

We are traveling to Italy in March and are considering taking one of our days in Florence to visit a winery in the Tuscan region. Just looking for suggestions for a place that has a nice tour.

Thanks.

Verrazano winery is about 50 minute drive from Florence in the heart of Chanti. They not only have a comprehensive tour, but a phenomenal lunch. The total time for the tour and lunch is about 3 hours and you will not be hungry for dinner. We had a car while we were touring Tuscany. You can get to the winery by public transportation, taking a bus from Florence and then walking 30 minutes to the winery (or getting ordering a taxi from the bus stop).

Here is the link with all the details, including how to get there (car & public transport): http://www.verrazzano.com.

There are also day tour companies that can take you out to the wineries and some combine cooking classes. Since we had a car, I didn’t explore those options, but you can find out some from TripAdvisor or folks on this forum might know of a good one.

Have a great trip,
Sandy

hi darylb
lots of different places to see and tour, with Tuscany being a mass area. we did a private tour but only saw one winery, couple busy towns, didn't want to rent car and drive. to me was not worth the cost.
another idea to look at is withlocals.com a few ideas there to pick from.

I have taken the Chianti tour from Tuscan Trails and it was excellent. The van picks you up in Florence. You see 2 wineries and also have a nice lunch at a restaurant.

I was about to chime in with a vote for the Tuscan Trails Chianti Tour. Todd is the history teacher you should have had in high school - with wine!

Here’s another vote for Verrazzano. We made it our home base for our trip to Tuscany. It was a wonderful experience. Their winery tour and food and wine tasting at lunch is well worth the price. Plan on at least theee hours. You could ride the bus from Florence early in the morning, explore Greve then take a taxi to the winery. You could then either taxi back to Greve or walk down the hill. There’s a bus stop 150 or so yards from the entrance.

I have been several times (2013, 2016, 2017) to San Michele a Torri in Scandicci. It is a very good winery, with very informative and attentive staff, and can provide a tour of the winery and a sit down tasting, which also includes the wonderful olive oil that they produce. San Michele a Torri
They will customize to how much or little time you may have. It is a beautiful setting with some interesting stories from WWII too if you can get them talking. The wines are all excellent, and varied in both tastes and price. They can ship it home for you, we always do a mixed box (or 2!) with wine and oil. I'm sure you would have a great day in the Tuscan countryside here.
Googlemaps says it's only 25 minutes outside of Florence.

We loved Tuscan Trails and I have been on a few tours with them but I'm pretty sure Todd no longer owns or runs it (my husband is fb friends with him and has sent people his way for a private tour). Can't speak for how it's currently being run. We've also done several tours with Italy & Wine. Have been to Montalcino, Montepuliano and Chianti with them. All of our tours included a couple wineries and lunch. It is how we came to discover our favorite producer in Montalcino (Īl Cocco). We go back there every chance we get!

In response to Wendi, Todd was still running Tuscan Trails 2 weeks ago when we went on a tour with him. It was a great experience.
