Wineries in Tuscany?

My boyfriend and I are picking up a rental car in Florence and need to drop it in Rome at the end of the following day. We don't know where to go in this time, but want to visit area wineries. Does anyone have a recommendation on a route to take and specific wineries I should visit (and make a reservation?) Thank you!

Mary:

By all means make a reservation - Italian wineries are not like the drop in places we enjoy here in the Willamette Valley.

In the Chianti region between Florence and Siena (S222 is known as the "Chianti Road") two of our favorites are: 1) Panzanello - located just outside of Panzano. A nice winery with a wonderful English speaking owner. If you make a reservation they will even put together a luncheon with your tasting. 2) Volpaia - Located near Greve just off S222 - you don't need a reservation to just drop in the wine shop but for the actual tour/tasting you will need one. The entire tiny hilltop village is the winery. Great wines and nice people.

Both of those wineries have websites and in my experience promptly respond to email inquiries. Have fun.
