Wineries & History: Milan up to Switzerland Help!

Hello, this group really helped me with planning my Honeymoon to Greece, so I thought you could help me with my next adventure to Italy. My husband and I are going with his brother and wife. His brother is BIG into Italian wines so he has some stops he'd already like to visit. Along the way though, my husband loves history and I have no clue what would make sense along our route to stop and see.
Here is what I know and I'm hoping you guys could suggest some towns, must sees, b&bs, monuments, or even restaurants in each area or along the way. Thank you in Advance. Oh we're going in March 2024 and we'll be driving to each stop.

-Fly into Milan (rent car)
-Milan 1-2 nights
-Piemonte (3 nights)
-Franciacorta (3 nights)
-Alto Adige (3 nights)
-Switzerland? (3-4 nights)
-Fly out of Zurich

We flew into Milan a few years ago, stayed 2 nights there. One day we took the train to Torino and saw a Jueventus Soccer Game. We also did the normal tour in Milan and toured the Duomo, I didn't find the food to be super amazing in Milan but that's just me. The food in Rome was amazing! We then took a train from Milan to Tirano (got to see Lake Como and many country sides) and then the Bernina Express from Torino to St. Moritz Switzerland. It was amazing, we went skiing so we were there in February. We then took the train back at the end to Milan and flew back to NY from there. Not sure if that helps at all but the train will be your friend!

You know that if you rent a car in Italy and drop it off in Switzerland, you are going to face a rather large fee, right?
If you fly out of Italy instead, you could drive into Switzerland with your rental and avoid that, plus it might maximize your time better. It's a fairly aggressive itinerary.

Not sure why Switzerland is in your itinerary, but I'd suggest ...
Fly into Venice ...
Veneto
Alto Adige
Piemonte
Tuscany
Fly out of Florence, but that still could be aggressive.
Most of our trips are wine related and although I do like Franciacorta wines, I'm not sure it's worth the drive since it won't be an easy drive.
And yes, you will pay extra to prick up and drop off in two cities, but we do it all the time.

Do not need or want a car in Milan
Pick it up as you leave

Drop off fee in Switzerland may break your budget.
Dropping in an Italian city is not a problem
Dropping in different country is

ChristineH - In May 2022 we picked our car up in Milan and dropped it off in Marseille and although yes there was a one-way fee it was $435 more then had we dropped it back in Milan. So yes, more but I don't think it was unreasonable.
