Wineries along Rick's Val d'Orcia drive

Hi,
Mapping out Rick Steves' Val d'Orcia drive from Montepulciano in a loop southwest thru Bagno Vignoni, San Quirico and Pienza. I can also take a detour off the loop to Montalcino also, but i am wondering if there are wineries you would recommend that are more on-the-route of Rick's loop? Most of the ones I have seen recommended thus far are Montalcino and south (for the Brunello, of course!)

Also, there is a cheese/olive farm called Famiglia Armellini near Pienza. Has anyone taken their tour and would you recommend?

Thanks!
Kathy

We made a reservation (necessary) at Santa Guilia in Montalcino. It was probably the best tasting we have ever experienced. They placed their 3 Brunello's on each table and we tasted as much as we wanted. The food was plentiful and the family was so inviting! I shipped a case home and we are still enjoying it!

I am not familiar with the cheese farm you mentioned, but this is one that we very much like near Pienza…Podere Il Casale. We have reservations for lunch there again this April.

As far as wineries in that region…the only one we have visited is Valdorcia Terre Senesi…

We tend to visit wineries closer to Montalcino for the Brunellos (Cantina di Montalcino) and then farther east closer to Montepulciano for the Vino Nobile (Avignonesi and Bindella)
