Wine/Vineyard tour with younger kids

Hello all,
We will be in Tuscany in just a few short days! We are hoping to find a wine tour that might also be connected to a farm so our 7 and 5 years are entertained while we are able to do a tasting. Does such a place exist? Thank you all in advance!

Hi Gina -
"Tuscany" is a region. Where exactly in Tuscany will you be? I assume you want a tour with transport from wherever you will be located?

So you're looking for a winery that is also a farm, and has child care facilities? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think most places will require you to keep your children with you at all times, especially at those ages.

I never visited a winery with children that young but did with older children. They stayed with us the whole time and were given some grape juice instead of wine. Our kids were old enough to enjoy learning about wine making which I doubt your five year old would be.

First all of the vineyards are in fact farms. If you are looking for a farm with farm animals, etc., I don't think you will find that. In all of our visit we only saw wine production and lots of vines going everywhere. Sometimes located in old castles or villa that was interesting but not for kids that young.

I agree with CJean. A winery is VERY unlikely to provide child care. If you need your kids tended to while you do wine tasting, I suggest you bring a nanny along on your trip.

I’ve just started to research family friendly wineries in Tuscany as we are taking our much younger kids and extended family on a trip next year. I haven’t gotten very far but it sounds like you are looking for an agriturismo that would have both winery and farm animals for a day trip? Here’s a basic article that has some links and you might be able to go down a rabbit hole and find something that works for you.

Hi All,
Thank you for your responses. Perhaps I should have given more detail, I apologize. No, I'm not looking for childcare at all, simply something that will be of interest to both the adults and children. I read somewhere (cannot find the original article) of a vineyard that provided tours of both the vineyard and the animal portion of the farm. Additionally, I was intentionally broad in indicating "Tuscany" as we will be in several areas, Rome, Porto Venere, Siena, etc. Again, thank you all.

Stephanie, Thank you so much. I love the CiaoBambino site, it's been so helpful. I wish I could remember the place I read about. If I find it, I will absolutely circle back and let you all know. Thank you!

I forgot to mention, we will have our own transportation.

We spent a week in the Tuscany area visiting two to three wineries a day. Our experience, at least with the better wineries, is that you do need advance reservations with fees. The car will give you the advantage of visiting wineries that are not very touristy because the tour bus cannot travel the road to the winery. But as I posted earlier I cannot remember any winery that had farm animals or programs for kids.

Do take advantage of the paired wine lunch or dinners that some offer. A bit expensive but terrific experience. Good luck.
