Does anyone know about the Wine Train in Cinque Terra that Rick Steves took on his DVD? Shelly
Shelly, there's no "wine" train in Cinque Terre. There's just the regular old regional train that goes from Levanto to La Spezia and stops at the five villages.
Of course probably no one would object if you brought a bottle of wine on board.
Shelly - Are you referring to the small trams that the locals use to go up the mountain to maintain their vineyards? They do exist and are a whole lot of fun to ride if you can convince a local to let you on.
Ciao, Greg
Greg - This must be it! I know i saw Rick Steve do this trip on his DVD...when i'm there in September i'll check out what you told me!! BIG THANX! Shelly
If you're not successful with that (or maybe even if you are haha!), do the Manarola "vineyard walk" in Rick's book. It is a really easy walk in terms of physical requirement and the smells (and views) are utterly intoxicating.
Debra - WOW! I just looked up your information about the walk in CT in Rick Steve's book...sounds wonderful...thank you for pointing it out! Shelly
You're welcome! Enjoy! I took a bunch of pictures, I have them on Flickr mid-way through this set. in this picture taken near the beginning, you can see the railings maybe 2/3 down the hill, that's where the walk goes.
