Wine tours in Early May

There are many wine trips that will haul you from Florence and Siena into Chianti wine cities to visit wineries and have tastings. They often get expensive @ over $100 pp for 1/2 day trips. The same type tours are available out of Siena. Just Google "Tuscan wine trips" for websites. Another outfit operating out of Siena and Florence are getting great ratings--http://www.tuscanwineschool.com They have different wine education programs and tastings which are more affordable. I'll probably be going for their 2 hour tasting next month. There are some cooperative wine tasting rooms in many towns in Chianti that offer samples and sell their winery clients' products. They'll also pack and send cases directly to your home. The tasting rooms could also give you some memorable cultural experiences.

Wine excursions? So you are looking for a day or half day visiting the winery? I suppose the first choice to be made is whether you want simply to taste a selection of wines and buy some to take home, in which case almost any wine store or enoteca in Florence will do. Most of the wine stores understand that this is the way to sell and have an area set aside for tastings. You may have to pay a few euro to try 3-4 wines or pay for each one you try. They generally don't let you drink for free! (although if you find one which does please let me know :-)) There are several companies which do wine tours or excursions in Tuscany. You can find them thru' google, tripadvisor or here on Rick Steves. We chose the Slow Days wine tour after doing a bit of research and had a really good time. It was good for us because we also got to visit some of the beautiful villages in Tuscany and eat at an excellent restaurant.
