We are a large party who will be staying near Sienna. We would like to take a wine tour, or should say visit some wineries. Does anyone know of any who might combine a tour with lunch in that area.
Thanks

Try Volpaia (about 30km or so from Siena). The whole ancient hilltop village is the winery. The tour is fun and with a large group they will happily arrange a tasting along with luncheon or (better yet) dinner . The Volpaia wines are very good. The person in charge of such tours at the winery is Marja (pronounced "Maria" - she is Finnish - ask her how she ended up there its a great story). The six of us were there in October of '07 and our visit to Volpaia was a real highlight. Just google Volpaia. Have fun.
We took the Cor Magis Travel Chianti Grand Tour. They took us to 2 medieval towns and 2 winerys. The first one,Casa Nova of Sant Agnese had vineyards, olive trees, lavendar and herbs. They make a variety of products, including balsamic vinegar, olive oil,a medieval wine, honey as well as several types of wine. Though it wasn't actually lunch, we were served a plate with crackers, cheese, meat, cheese, cookies and a chick pea salad ( they also grow these) to sample along with several wines. They also make soaps and other products from their lavendar and herbs that are for sale. At the second winery , Poggio Amorelli, we sampled the olive oil and bread, and 5 different wines. The tour was from 2pm and lasted 6 hours. The van holds 8, so the group is small. Cost was 50 euros each. They even picked us up at our hotel in Castello, outside of Sienna. It was a memorable and enjoyable day. Don't book anything with Tour in Terre di Sienna: the tour we took with them was a waste.
Here is a wine train that leave Siena on Saturdays and Florence on Sundays: http://www.winestation.it/
